Mamma’s Birthday!

October 1, 2018 By ShriKant Vashishtha Leave a Comment

Kaakul had been working for quite some time to create a greeting card for her mom’s birthday tomorrow. All of a sudden she tore everything she made and came crying in the lap of her mom. Worried, mom asked the reason.

Kaakul said while still crying profusely – “Mamma, I want to make a card for you. But I don’t know anything to make. I can make only a flag.”

Why I am a Hindu

In this video, Tharoor has given voice to many of us who consciously or unconsciously live what true Hinduism is all about. But somehow those sensible feelings used to become a bit lonely in the loud noise Hindu nationalists (so called) create all the time.

I truly love Nasadiya Sukta, the same one which was the theme song of Bharat Ek Khoj.

Do you know that such thoughts are or were considered crime in other religions. You may be aware that Galileo was sentenced to indefinite imprisonment and kept under house arrest until his death in 1642. Why? Just because he believed that the earth revolves around the sun This was against church belief that the earth was the immovable center of the universe.

Church crushed many of the independent thoughts and killed people if they conflicted with their set of theories.

Similarly people who don’t believe in Allah are kafirs in Islam.

But hinduism asks you to question the very existence of srishti with a very scientific mindset.

Nasadiya Sukta is the prime example of that philosophy – https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasadiya_Sukta

Happy Independence Day!

I and Suhani both were watching TV. Out of nowhere she said, “Happy Independency Day Papa”.

“Hain?? But beta 15th August to kab ka nikal gaya.”, I asked completely bewildered.

“Papa, today I got independence from my exams and you got yours from your workshops”, Suhani said.

It took me a while to understand what she just said and then I couldn’t stop smiling and laughing out loud.

Today Kaakul said, “Kal ki chhutti hai”.

“Kyun?”, I asked.

“Kyonki kal money ka birthday hai”, she replied.

Those Comparing Parents!

October 1, 2018 By ShriKant Vashishtha Leave a Comment

I keep observing this as a pattern in parents for years. Somehow, I wish they could change it.

Here are some examples.

You start showing some of the most beautiful pics of your kid and you hear, “bhai, ye chhodo. hamaare bachche ke photos dikhaao”.

Another incident. You observe a development in your kid which maybe every parent observes in their parenthood journey. Remember, those happy moments?

As you share them with someone, you get that immediate reaction, “Oh, my child did the same even better!”

You feel that someone crushed your feelings with a bulldozer.

Why to compare at all? Why can’t we hear and be part of a parent’s happiness in that moment? You’ll find tons of opportunities to share yours as well.
